The psaltic group of Nera Monastery was founded in 1999. It was created from the nuns’ desire to fulfil a duty of the soul and of conscience towards all those who, with love and devotion, started to take part in the monastery’s services. Both the lay seekers of spiritual benefit in this corner of the country and the members of the monastic community have felt the need for an environment conducive to prayer, and chanting is, to a large extent, responsible for the atmosphere that it lends to services.
The hours of training with enthusiastic and true teachers of Byzantine chant have slowly begun to bear fruit and to make possible the fulfilment of the initial desire of the nuns from Nera Monastery. Without presuming to possess the mastery of this true art, i.e. the Byzantine chant, the psaltic group from Nera Monastery tries, with perseverance, thoroughness and courage, to accumulate, through study, the knowledge necessary to improve the quality of chanting and to cultivate the love for authentic church chanting.
The group has so far recorded several albums: The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, The Paraklisis of the Holy Trinity, and in 2016, The Paraklisis of St. Luke the Apostle and Evangelist, after receiving the Grand Prize in the "Praise the Lord" Church Music Competition, the 8th edition, in 2015.
